Arizona has some of the most magnificent sunsets in the world. Sometimes the sunset colors are reflected in the surface of a lake, and other times they are framed by mountain ridges or desert flora, and sometimes by the sky itself. Experiencing the progression of colors from blues to yellows to pinks to deep reds is both breathtaking and simultaneously meditative and calming. It's easy to see why sunset is my favorite time of day!

When one thinks of Arizona, water is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. But we live within biking distance of at least 5 lakes, all artificial but still very nice. Some are part of developments and others are part of parks. Most use recycled water, although they undoubtedly lose a lot of water through evaporation. Nevertheless, they serve as great reflectors of the sky at sunset. We often head out on our bikes about half-hour or so before sunset, take a break by the lake, and then ride home after dark. And occasionally we are rewarded with an astonishing painting, and sometimes I have my camera along and have an opportunity to capture an image of the scene. We also have South Mountain a short drive away, and we have a few favorite places to watch the sunset after a short hike. We are truly blessed to have these opportunities nearby. I hope you also find the scenes calming and rejuvenating.
