Hiking under the full moon in the desert on a clear winter's evening is a unique and very special experience. These photos are from our excursion on December 9, 2011. We walked in about two miles during the mid-afternoon, enjoyed a relaxing break and snack in the warm sun, stayed for the moonrise, and then hiked back to the trailhead under the light of the full moon, guided by Venus leading the way and Jupiter watching over our shoulders. The photos show the wonderful afternoon light bathing the surrounding landscape, the moonrise and sunset afterglow framed by majestic saguaros, and some of the landscape illuminated by the full moon. For our family and friends we've also included a couple of self-portraits. Thanks for your interest!
