We had the opportunity this year to explore the dramatic coastline south of Galway. After a few days enjoying the ever-changing landscape of the Connemara, we drove south through the surreal geological formations of the Burren, the green hillsides of the Dingle, and the spectacular coastline of the Ring of Kerry (Iveragh Peninsula). We were fortunate enough (with the weather) to spend time on three islands – Inishbofin (off the coast of Connemara), the Great Blasket (off the Dingle coast), and Great Skellig (off the Iveragh Peninsula). We also climbed Ireland’s highest mountain, Carrantuohill, part of the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks. As you will see, we were blessed with a long stretch of sunny weather, something that is fairly unusual in these parts. Without the good weather, we wouldn’t have made the crossings to the islands, we wouldn’t have climbed Carrantuohill Mountain, and we wouldn’t have seen so many wonderful sunsets. However, we would have spent more time in the pubs listening to the wonderful traditional music, but that will wait for another trip!
My apologies for including so many photos in this set. These were initially selected as "candidates" for this gallery, but I still need to make an additional pass through the set in order to reduce the overload for the viewer.
